Can you cancel Planet Fitness in the app?

Planet Fitness Cancellation Deadlines

The cancellation deadline is one of the most important parts of the process because submitting a request does not necessarily stop a payment that is already too close to processing.

Planet Fitness says billing changes can take up to seven business days to take effect.

Example: monthly billing

Suppose your standard Planet Fitness monthly charge is scheduled for October 17. Under Planet Fitness’s current customer-service policy, your club generally needs to receive the cancellation request by October 10 to stop that October 17 billing.

Example: annual fee

Suppose your annual fee is scheduled in November. Planet Fitness says the cancellation request needs to be received by the 25th of the month before that annual-fee date.

Because exact annual-fee dates are membership-specific, check your account or membership agreement rather than assuming every member has the same date.

Does Planet Fitness Charge a Cancellation Fee?

Not every Planet Fitness member pays an early cancellation fee.

Planet Fitness currently says that when a membership has a minimum term and is ended before the end of that contract term, a $58 buyout fee is required.

What does “No Commitment” mean?

Planet Fitness describes the commitment length as the minimum number of months you will be billed. For a No Commitment membership, Planet Fitness says you can cancel without paying an early buyout fee.

That does not automatically erase a monthly charge that has already entered the billing process or an annual fee for which you missed the cancellation cutoff.

Canceling Classic vs. PF Black Card

Planet Fitness’s public cancellation instructions do not create a completely separate cancellation process for Classic and PF Black Card memberships.

For either membership, the main routes are:

• online through the Planet Fitness website Member Portal;
• in person at the home club; or
• written notification mailed to the home club.

What can differ is the agreement attached to your specific membership: monthly dues, annual-fee date, commitment period and other club-specific terms.

How to Cancel Planet Fitness If You Moved

If your old home club is now far away, you do not necessarily need to travel back just to submit a cancellation request.

Start with the online Member Portal. Planet Fitness also allows written cancellation notice to be mailed to your home club.

Before Canceling: Transfer or Downgrade

If you still want a Planet Fitness membership but your current setup no longer works, cancellation may not be the only option.

Transfer to another Planet Fitness club

Planet Fitness allows qualifying members to transfer their membership online.

According to the current official FAQ, you can transfer online when all of the following are true:

• you are not a minor;
• you have been a Planet Fitness member for at least 90 days;
• you have not transferred your membership in the previous 90 days;
• you do not owe outstanding dues or fees at the current club;
• you do not have a financial cosigner or third-party subsidized membership; and
• your membership is billed monthly rather than being a Paid in Full membership.

If you do not meet the online-transfer conditions, Planet Fitness says to contact your home club for help.

Downgrade instead of canceling

If your issue is the membership level rather than Planet Fitness itself, the company says members looking to downgrade should stop by their club and ask a team member for assistance.

For example, a PF Black Card member who no longer needs its additional benefits can ask the club what downgrade options are available.

Can You Freeze a Planet Fitness Membership?

Planet Fitness’s current public customer-service FAQ does not publish one universal freeze policy that applies to every member and every club.

Planet Fitness’s own referral terms confirm that frozen accounts can exist, but they do not provide a general rule stating that every membership can be frozen on request, for how long, or under which circumstances.

If you only need a temporary break, contact your home club and ask whether your specific membership is eligible for a freeze and what documentation or billing rules apply.

Can You Cancel Planet Fitness by Phone?

Planet Fitness’s current customer-service page does not list a phone call by itself as one of its standard methods for ending membership.

The listed methods are online through the Member Portal, an in-person home-club visit, or written notification mailed to the home club.

You can still call your home club to ask about your billing, address, account status or the cancellation procedure that applies to your membership.

Does Deleting the PF App Cancel Your Membership?

No. Removing an app from your phone does not send Planet Fitness an official request to end your membership.

The membership remains subject to its agreement until you complete an accepted cancellation process.
